How To Check Your Diskspace Usage On Your Account

In this video we share how to check your disk space usage on your WP Alpha account using the inbuilt tools, and how to clean it up. It is worth checking when your account is getting close to its storage space, or when you want to find out which folders are taking up the most room.

There are two places in the hosting platform where you can check usage. The first gives you a quick total, and the second shows exactly where the space is going.

Step by step: see your total usage

  1. Log in to the hosting admin console and go to Websites & Domains.
  2. Open your site. Its statistics show how much disk space it is using.
  3. Click Refresh next to the figure to update it.

Step by step: find and clean up large folders

  1. From your site’s tabs, open the Disk Space Usage tool.
  2. You will see a folder viewer showing how much space each folder uses. Click into folders to drill down to where the space is being used. The wp-content folder is often the biggest.
  3. Tick the files or folders you no longer need and click Delete Selected.
  4. When you have finished, go back to Websites & Domains and click Refresh on the usage statistic to see the new total.

Things to check

  • If your account has more than one site, make sure the folder viewer is showing the right one before you delete anything. Look for your domain name in the folder path. In the video the viewer first opened on a different site.
  • Only delete files and folders you are sure you don’t need. Removing the wrong item from wp-content can break your site.
  • The usage figure in Websites & Domains does not update the moment you delete something. Click Refresh to get the current number.
