Our story

How a run of 502 and 504 errors on a shared hosting plan in 2008 turned into a hosting platform.

Brendan Tully, founder of WP Alpha

Hey, I’m Brendan.

We started hosting websites in 2008, when we started our SEO agency and were rebuilding sites for clients. Back then we put them on a shared plan, not knowing better. Very quickly clients started complaining about 504 and 502 errors and sites going down. That is when we first took site performance seriously.

We wrote a blog post on site speed that has now been seen by millions. In 2016, because we were getting so many enquiries about speed, we started a service focused purely on site speed, and it became a whole agency in itself. We have helped over 5,000 sites since, and we took those learnings and built them into the WP Alpha platform.

Along the way we built our own monitoring software for real-visitor speed data and uptime, because we could not buy what we needed. Both are part of every plan.

What customers say

★★★★★

Very happy with the work they did to optimize the caching and speed on the website. They also debugged some weird issues that I was having related to caching plugins.
